School of the Arts (SOTA), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) participated as an academic collaborator in the Talktime English Hour programme themed “Own the Stage, Own Your Voice: Public Speaking Through Drama”, held at Politeknik Balik Pulau.
The session featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Begum Aboo Backer from the School of the Arts (SOTA), USM, as the invited speaker. The programme focused on the application of drama-based techniques to enhance public speaking skills, vocal confidence, and effective communication in English.
Through an interactive and practice-oriented approach, participants were introduced to key elements of performance such as vocal projection, body language, emotional expression, and stage presence. These components play a crucial role in strengthening communication skills within both academic and professional contexts.
Organised by the English Unit, General Studies Department, Politeknik Balik Pulau, the programme was conducted from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and received encouraging participation from students and staff of the institution.
SOTA USM’s involvement in this programme reflects its continued commitment to extending expertise in performing arts beyond the university, while fostering meaningful collaboration between higher education institutions and the TVET sector through creative and interdisciplinary approaches.
