GEORGE TOWN, 9 April 2026 β€” Students from the Acting and Directing Division, School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (SOTA USM), have achieved national recognition after securing Third Place at the SPAN 2026 Creative Video Competition, organised by the Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN).

Competing against 197 entries from across Malaysia, the USM team stood out with their compelling video production titled β€œRipper”, which impressed the judges through its strong narrative, creative direction, and impactful visual storytelling. The competition attracted a wide range of participants nationwide, making the achievement a significant milestone for the university’s performing arts community.

The team’s success was guided by Dr. Azrul Azizi Amirrul, whose mentorship and expertise played a vital role in shaping the project from concept to completion. The production reflects not only technical proficiency but also the students’ ability to engage audiences with meaningful and thought-provoking content.

This accomplishment underscores the strength of SOTA USM in nurturing Ρ‚Π°Π»Π°Π½Ρ‚ed and competitive artists capable of excelling at the national level. It also highlights the growing influence of creative media as a platform for storytelling and artistic expression among young practitioners.
