Angin Main Teri Reimagines Traditional Ritual Through Contemporary Theatre

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 September 2026 – Angin Main Teri, an immersive contemporary theatre production inspired by the Main Teri ritual tradition of Malaysia’s East Coast, will be staged on 17 and 18 September 2026 at 8:30 PM at the BlackBox ASWARA, Academic Building, Level 5.
Presented by Benzarie Legacy, the production explores the relationship between the body, memory, ritual, belief and the unseen through theatre, music, movement, sound, lighting and art installation.
Rather than reproducing Main Teri in its traditional form, Angin Main Teri draws inspiration from the tradition to create a contemporary theatrical experience rooted in Malaysian cultural heritage. The production explores memory, inherited stories, identity and belief through the relationship between reality and imagination.
The production is supported by collaborations with ASWARA, Pusat Seni, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and INSAN, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), bringing together artists, traditional practitioners and academics to exchange knowledge and expertise.
