A Weekend of Growth, Performance & Musical Excellence at USM Piano Achievement Day 2026

The USM Piano Achievement Day 2026 was successfully conducted on 18–19 April 2026 at Dewan Agung, School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (SOTA USM). Running from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm over two days, the event brought together a vibrant community of students, parents, educators, and alumni in a shared celebration of piano performance and musical development.
This year’s programme welcomed more than 200 participants, creating an encouraging and supportive environment for young musicians to share their progress. Each participant performed one to two piano pieces with a maximum duration of six minutes per performance. Designed as a low-pressure platform, the event allowed students to perform without the requirement of memorisation, enabling them to focus on musical expression and confidence-building.
In addition to live performances, participants received certificates of participation and detailed comment sheets from evaluators. These personalised feedback reports served as valuable learning tools, helping students identify strengths and areas for improvement in preparation for examinations and future public performances.
The event also reflected a dynamic and growing interest in SOTA USM’s music programmes. A healthy balance of new participants and returning students highlighted the continuity of engagement within the music community. Parents attending the event also expressed interest in admissions into the Music Department, signalling increasing confidence in the academic and artistic offerings at SOTA USM.
A significant highlight of the programme was the return of SOTA USM alumni in the role of educators. These graduates brought their own students to participate, demonstrating the long-term impact of the institution’s training and the continued contribution of alumni to the wider music education ecosystem. Their involvement strengthened the connection between academic learning and professional practice.
The event also welcomed participation from RINTIS-sponsored students, further reinforcing collaborative efforts between SOTA USM and industry partners in supporting music education development.
Overall, the USM Piano Achievement Day 2026 successfully fostered an integrated learning environment that bridges student training, performance experience, and professional engagement. The programme continues to serve as an important platform in nurturing the next generation of musicians while strengthening the growing music community at SOTA USM.
